Toronto Raptors not near top of list of Nash’s preferred teams

4 July 2012 2 Comments

Raptors fans can stop holding their breaths.

If you are anything like I am, you have been quietly anticipating the biggest free agent signing in Toronto Raptors history with the possibility of Steve Nash seeming very real until today.

Reports have emerged that the Knicks will be able to offer Nash $27-$30 million over three years via a sign-and-trade and it has also become painfully obvious that as a non-contender, we were always plan C behind the Knicks and Mavs.

As a Raptor fan this is very painful, but perhaps we were wearing rose colored glasses this whole time anyways.

Besides playing in Canada, we realistically had nothing to offer Nash except more money, but being 38 years old and never having lifted the Larry O’Brien, where would you go?

Much like with the Vince Carter situation, as fans we hate this move, and some fans will even have some venom for Nash the two times he visits the ACC this year, but as a man/woman you have to understand that at some point a championship should become more important than dollars and cents.

In any event, we will not turn this into a rant, so good luck to Nash in NY or Dallas and thank-you for at least considering us and making free agency fun for us for the last few days.

It sounds like family matters play a big part of this: wanting to live close to his kids, and having an ex-wife who doesn’t want to move to Canada.

Can’t fault the guy for that. And let’s not take it personally.
