The Raptors most important expiring contract may not belong to Bosh

10 February 2010 567 views 3 Comments

Contrary to popular belief, it can be argued that the Toronto Raptors most important expiring contract actually belongs to resident G.M Bryan Colangelo and not to franchise forward Chris Bosh. Whether or not Chris Bosh decides to stay on Toronto, the Raptors will need a steady hand to guide them through the future post summer of 2010.

With reports constantly being bandied around regarding the Nets and prospective new owner Mikhail Prokhorov’s interest in Colangelo, it is on MLSE to offer the requisite extension immediately.

Losing Colangelo, arguably, once again, can be more disastrous than losing Bosh.

I know, you don’t agree; however, there is no debate that Bryan Colangelo is one of the top basketball minds in the business and is by FAR the best G.M we have had with the Raptors, and maybe for all of Toronto sports in the last 15-20 years.

In all likelihood however MLSE who seems to have their finger on the pulse lately will offer an in-season extension to Colangelo thus mitigating the risk that we may lose our resident basketball genius, as intimated today in the Star. Here’s hoping they do, for all of our sakes.

What do you think Raptor fans??
Is extending or re-signing Bryan Colangelo as important, or close to as important as re-signing Chris Bosh??

You are right. He does know basketball. NJ-NY-LAC: at least three teams are after him. Let’s hope he stays. He was smart enough to see his mistakes and he tried to correct them. That is a sign of intelligence.

You have been fooled by BAD reporting from usually reliable sources.

On Feb 5, on raptors.com, Adnan Virk reported on an interview with Colangelo where BC said he he had talked to his bosses and was returning for next season and many seasons to come!

Richard Peddie on fan590 today said Colangelo contract is for 4 years ending in 2011 and that MLSE had the right to terminate early this June. Of course they have no intention of letting Colangelo go. Peddie also said Colangelo has no right to terminate early and they will not give any team permission to talk to him.

There is no “extension” required for next season as Colangelo is already under contract for next season.

I believe Peddie is somewhat pissed at the made up news stories making the rounds about his GM.

Its basically a club option from what I gather, an option that was not picked up thus fueling the ESPN Insider supported rumours

I provided a link at the end of the article with the Star’s blog post on the subject which contained comments from both BC and Peddie
