Seems Like Weems Is Still Flying Under The Radar
If Weems was our own 2008 2nd round draft pick Toronto would be abuzz about the possibility of having athletes like DeRozan, Amir Johnson and Sonny Weems on the floor at the same time. Instead Sonny Weems is still going under the radar. As mentioned in our previous article on Weems, he is going to be a source of toughness, scoring and D. Weems will be hard pressed to find floor time this season, but we here at Raptors Digest see the same thing that resident trade guru Bryan Colangelo has seen in Weems; an ultra-athletic slashing swing-man who has the tools to become a starter in the NBA.
Now while he does boast these tools he will need, one way or another, opportunity to develop those skills on the NBA level (as he has already dominated the D-League averaging 20+ ppg, 4.5 rpg and 3.0 apg). Luckily for Weems he is a good, toolsy defender and this will allow him to see time at the 3 as well as the 2 for the Raptors.
For all Raptor fans who haven’t had a chance to do any research on new Raptor Sonny Weems, let me just say this, there will be some “oooohs” and “aaaaahs”.

If you are not the least bit excited about Weems’ potential, watch the video again!!

You’re probably right, people would be excited about him if he was our second round pick. He’s had a bit of time in the league and hasn’t shown anything, though, so there’s not really reason to be excited.
Actually, there’s one thing I’m excited about. Our pre-game warmups should be awesome. DeRozan, Weems, Amir Johnson, and Patrick O’Bryant will be throwing ‘em down.
