Raptors luck out: Ed Davis to the Raptors

In a somewhat unexpected fall in the lottery top-10 talent Ed Davis slipped into the Toronto Raptors laps.

Landing Davis is especially huge because of Chris Bosh’s pending free agency. Davis will be able to start if needed but will likely be the first big off the bench to start the season.

Davis has excellent length and athleticism and will make Raptor fans very happy with his ability to defend unlike our former C Andrea Bargnani. He is a very good shot-blocker and rebounder and will be an ideal complement to both Amir Johnson and Andrea Bargnani.

Davis has immense potential and if he can add some muscle and some range he can become a dominant player in this league. Otherwise he will still make a fine role player and will help ease the potential loss of Ed Davis.

Ed Davis began the season as the #2 ranked player on ESPN’s big board and as stated above has loads of potential. Davis is an explosive dunker and will make quite the duo with DeMar DeRozan.

Ed Davis is a hard worker and it is this quality along with his D and athleticism that will immediately cause Raptor fans to fall for the newest addition to the Raptors.

Interesting…but he never came to the work out though…how did he just slip in like that? For some reason, this pick is slowly reminding of the days when Antonio DAVIS was still around…

Remember Antonio Davis was solid in the middle though undersized and even represented us in the All-Star game in a weak year.

By now I am sure you have heard that he never came to workout because no one expected him to be on the board…..he slipped because Udoh went to GS, which caused Det to take Monroe instead and George to Ind….

I’m still astounded he dropped. It’s nice that Raptors fans finally have something to be happy about.

    Tim,

I agree, great call on the possible slip

It seems like alot of fans are confused because we didnt work him out….but that’s only because he wasn’t supposed to be there at #13…

It’s embarrassing the number of fans that are complaining about this pick. I had hoped Raptor fans would be a little more informed than that. I still can’t believe how much they lucked out.

So my biggest wish about Ed Davis dropping came true. I wonder if my other wish, Bargnani being traded, also comes true. My ultimate is to Minnesota for Ricky Rubio.

I am a duke fan, so I’ve watched a lot of UNC game this past season, and let me tell you something, this guy is nothing to be excited about. He made no progress from his previous season and was an absolute disappointment. His offensive game is extremely raw, and he looked lost out there on defense half the time, however he still is a very good weakside shotblocker. I was always wondered why he was expected to go that high anyways. However, given the options we had left (with Paul George, Xavier Henry, and Aldrich being taken). Though I still think we should’ve traded down and picked up Eric Bledsoe and acquired another piece in the process.
