Raptors fans in Toronto can’t vote, Nate barely edges DeRozan
Amid complaints from Raptor fans that they couldn’t get their votes in on nba.com (I was one of them), Nate Robinson barely edged out DeMar DeRozan to take home his record breaking third Slam Dunk Championship.
DeRozan had the better event, but little Nate has more support from around the NBA world, where he is viewed as the classic underdog.
Congrats to Nate.
However, multiple fans from Toronto, yours truly included, are claiming issues with the nba.com server, fans claim to have put in their vote and verification word only to get a bad gateway error message. I got this same message on Friday night, but didnt think much of it since I was voting by text anyways.
Fast forward to last night, immediately after DeRozan lost my phone started ringing off the hook and I received multiple texts and emails from angry readers who said nba.com locked them out. Feeling that the 51% was phony to begin with, this issue that some fans in Toronto encountered only exacerbates the situation.

Sonny Weems likely would have won contest, DeRozan last dunk was soft and what happened to the showmanship…looked like a nervous rook
I’m from New York, a Raptors fan, and voted for DeMar, but it didn’t work for me either, so I think that it was just rigged.
I was in Hamilton and couldn’t vote. Tried multiple times.
wow, so this was not localized to Toronto, this is a major issue, especially considering he only won by 1%…..can you say RIGGED??
I live in Ohio and am a huge Raptor fan. Voting for Demar didn’t work for me either
nba.com has been messed up all year.
I’ve been trying to listen to eric and sherm on the fan 590 since
the beginning of the season by going through nba.com but I’d always get that same error message.
ridiculous
The gateway error started at least two minutes before the break.
Nate should’ve lost
Got in a few votes for Demar but after the first minute or so, I started getting 502 errors. From Richmond Hill, ON.
If you go on the Raptors fan page on Facebook, you will see the amount of people who could not vote. I had the same experience, my computer froze until the contest was over. Given that a person could vote many times, Demar lost a lot of votes due to this glitch.
Also there is a group that was started on FB called “Nate beat Demar because us people from Canada couldn’t vote”. A few of us have written to be NBA, but I just wonder if it will get any attention at all. Afterall, its the Toronto Raptors and the NBA don’t really care about us!
This is crazy. They should be required to do a re-vote if online votes for Demar didn’t process. Anyway, hasn’t Nate won by 1% the last couple years?
I tried to vote on nba.com about 10 times, only half of those votes seemed to count. The rest got bad gateway messages. I’m in New York.
couldnt vote either, error message. somethings fishy…
I live in British Columbia and it didnt let me vote either
Wouldn’t work from LA. Got bad gateway msg
I had the exact same problem, tried about 8 times to cast the vote and it kept getting me an error page! I thought I was the only one having the issue but with everyone else here having the same thing, something’s really fishy.
I had the same issue… I live in Victoria BC and I think Demar got snubbed because of it. But it is not a big deal because the dunk contest was a dud anyway… (I only voted for Demar because he was a Raptor ,,, but no one should have won)
I got the exact same message, “Bad Gateway”.
To further complicate issues, I had my PVR working to tape the contest, and here’s more fuel for the fire.
Before the last commercial break, they showed a clock telling fans how long they had left to vote. When they cut to commercial, the clock showed 2:07 left to vote. The commercial break lasted 84 seconds, and upon return, the hostess had an envelope in her hands already.
Fixed, there isn’t ANY doubt in my mind.
Im from edmonton, i tried voting multiple times but some erroe occured
Seems like some people had texting issues to according to Raptors facebook fan page and fan group http://www.facebook.com/group.php?v=wall&gid=304789876306
Doesn’t matter the dunk contest sucked anyways
Yes, that seems to be the general consensus, besides the off the side of the backboard dunk by DeRozan the contest was devoid of anything special
You guys do know the NBA is rigged right?
Gotta get payed, bitches!
word i had the same problem, very unfair.
The raptors are brutal. I could score on the raptors with my left hand and blind folded. Man step up play some defence and play like it means something you flippin bitches. Do they understand that they are playin to be in the NBA playoff’s. not the WNBA playoff’s. Get a coach that has a set, and will yell at some people rather than pacing up and down the side line wondering why things aren’t working. RUN THE FLOOR!!!!!!!!! DONT STAND AND WATCH THE GAME. fuck pay me 10 million a year and i will go in and play like its the last game of my life, get in peoples faces and actually do something out there. I’d be embarrassed to be on this team, I have been a big fan of the raptors for as long as i can remember. Since vince was on the team and as much as people hate vince, that swagger, edge and mentality that he brought to the court was the reason why they made the playoff’s and were fun to watch. Fire everyone and flippin get some players. keep weems, jack, and calderon, but tell calderon that he’s not allowed to be everyones best friend. he has to get mad at some people for once. turkalou is the worst expensive player i have ever seen. if i had a 20th of his pay i would be a better player in the court then he would be. i’d put money on it. I’ve never seen a team thats this good be this bad. I hope bosh docent sign back with the team to he has a chance to go play basketball and not be a sherpa carrying this team for another 10 years.
