Paul George: Could he fit with the Raptors

5 June 2010 4 Comments

Paul George: Compared to Wilson Chandler and Tracy McGrady, Geroge is currently more Chandler than T-Mac, and may be one of the biggest sleepers in the draft. He has a ton of upside and is generating rave reviews from the workouts and combine. George is a ‘silky, smooth’ player on the offensive end. One of the most under-rated players in the draft, George has the chance to be a mega steal for whatever team lands him; with work-ethic and talent almost ensures he will become a household name in whatever city he lands. George has excellent range and may actually transition to the 2, where he would be a match-up nightmare.

How he’d fit with the Raptors:
George is not a fit on paper, as we still have Turkoglu under contract and DeRozan slotted at either the 2 or the 3. However George will likely be the best player available at number 13, and despite Turkoglu still being a Raptor, George may still hear his name called in lieu of Turkoglu’s trade request. Jack, DeRozan, George and Bargnani would give the Raptors a solid, solid , young nucleus. George is extremely coachable and projects as a better pro than college player which is significant for a player that averaged 17 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

Raptors Digest thoughts: George is going to be one of the best players available when we draft and every Raptor fan would agree we need to draft the best player and not based on positional need. George is likely to be that player, especially if Avery Bradley is already off the board. The Raptors have other needs, most notably at the 1 and the 5, but there is no 1 or 5 who deserves to be drafted at this slot. Lets draft the best player available regardless of position and not draft an Araujo…er big man, based purely on positional need.
