Fantasy Sleepers: Shooting Guards

19 September 2009 No Comment

chandlerA sleeper is someone who defies conventional wisdom/popular thought and produces at a level that exceeds their ADP. All the names on this list fit that criteria.

Courtney Lee – Courtney Lee is poised to breakout for the New Jersey Nets in a super-potent backcourt featuring Devin Harris. With a lack of offensive fire-power expect Lee to become a high volume shooter and crack 20 ppg this season. He is not being drafted accordingly, this is a player to target in your draft; He will produce like a #1 but if you can manage to land him as your 2nd SG, you will be in a really good position.

Wilson Chandler – A Mike D’Antoni favourite, need we say more??

Wayne Ellington – Wayne Ellington is both a sleeper and a flier after news out of Minnesota has the T-Wolves planning to play both Sessions and Flynn on the court at the same time. Ellington should settle in to the SG role by mid-season and provide a decent rotation player/utility player for fantasy squads.

James Harden – James Harden will immediately step in and be the number 2 scoring option behind KD. The presence of Thabo Sefolosha is currently scaring off some owners from drafting James Harden at a respectable and realistic ADP. Currently going off the board after some backups Harden will assuredly reward his G.M’s from taking a chance on him on draft day.

Shane Battier – Shane Battier is expected to pick up some of the slack the departure of Ron Artest and the Yao injury create for other Rockets players to pick up. If, and when T-Mac goes down Battier will become the most valuable player on this team. Always a fantasy sleeper due to his hustle category contributions Shane Battier may finally live up to his talent and be more featured on offence.

O.J Mayo – Super Sophomore O.J Mayo is tumbling down drafts and draft boards after news of Z-Bo and A.I coming to town. This is still O.J Mayo’s team and look for Iverson to defer to Mayo as he looks to take him under his wing and provide this young superstar with some HOF tutelage.

Eric Gordon – There were times last year that no one would have argued with you if you told them that Eric Gordon was the Los Angeles Clippers best player. Enter #1 overall pick Blake Griffin, minus Z-Bo and EG should see his starter numbers of 18 ppg, 3 rpg. 3 apg, 2 3pg continue this season. We actually expect his assist number to be closer to 4like he averaged in the month of January. By next years draft Eric Gordon will not be flying underneath anyone’s radar anymore

Stephen Curry- High Volume shooter Stephen Curry has moved to one of the two offences in the NBA that perfectly suited his skill set. He will thrive in this up-tempo, shoot-first ask questions last Nellie-ball offence.
