Eric Bledsoe: Can he fit with the Raptors?

4 June 2010 3 Comments

Eric Bledsoe: Despite playing backup to super frosh John Wall, Bledsoe is ready for the NBA. Playing off the ball while at KU, Bledsoe did not get a chance to impress with his pure point skills or get to display his excellent defense as he was getting matched up against 2′s instead of 1′s.  Bledsoe has great quickness and is an ideal fit for a run and gun team like the Raptors, Knicks or Warriors. If not for the presence of Wall, Bledsoe would be a lock for the lottery.

How he’d fit with the Raptors: The Raptors need a point guard and besides teammate John Wall, Blesdoe is the best point guard available. On that alone he is a fit for the Raptors. Jose Calderon desperately needs to be traded and Bledsoe can learn the position behind Jarrett Jack until he is ready to take over the full-time job.  Bledsoe is a good shooter and is someone that, despite being a true point, will look to take over with the ball in his hands if needed.  Bledsoe is a lottery talent and is a better overall fit than someone like Avery Bradley due to his true point guard skills; with that said Bradley is still the more exciting prospect.

Raptors Digest thoughts: When the mocks first started naming Bledsoe going to the Raptors I was ecstatic; despite the fact we already have two pint guards on our roster, Bledsoe seems like he may be able to surpass both of them within a few years. Bledsoe is an ultra-quick point guard with true point skills which is exactly what we have been missing since T.J Ford got traded. Now while Bledsoe wont be able to step in and have the type of scoring games T.J blessed us with, Bledsoe is player that can make this offense go and doesn’t need a point forward type to help complement him. Bledsoe will be ready to contribute alot quicker than people may think.

I agree with your assessment of Bledsoe. Some say that if Bledsoe had not chosen KU and was a starting PG for any other program, we would see Eric higher in the mock drafts/rankings? Probably so.

I think Eric Bledsoe will be a killer, he has the toughness and fearlessness a lot of the elite PG’s have. Also, he came up with a great wingspan during the combine 6’7.5.For 6’1 player that is not bad!

Bradley is 6’3 and came up with the same wingspan as Bledsoe.

Yes, he would be ranked higher, both him and fellow freshman Daniel Orton suffered due to the presence of Wall and Cousins. Bledsoe still got some burn and was able to highlight his offensive polish.
