Chris Bosh wants to be centerpiece

20 June 2010 5 Comments

Chris Bosh recently told NBA entertainment that he wishes to be the centerpiece of an NBA team, reiterating sentiments he expressed earlier this off-season.

“I don’t want to be mentioned as an addition to a team,” Bosh told NBA Entertainment. “I want to be mentioned as the guy that people want to center their team around.”

Chris Bosh still firmly believes that he is a legit #1 option on a championship team, and it is hard to blame him as G.M’s are expected to be at his doorstep and on his phone at 12:01 AM on July 1st.

Many in Toronto may disagree with sentiment that a team can be built around Chris Bosh, but there is another faction would argue that all you need to do is to surround him with good players, something that never came to fruition in Toronto despite Bryan Colangelo’s attempts.

His comments may be viewed by some in Toronto as an indication that Toronto is till in the running, but we all know that with our roster as it is currently constructed, is not in the running. A trade of Bargnani and Calderon may change that, but it is not likely Colangelo will move his 1st overall mistake.

Bosh goes onto say this, and the end of his comments, do in fact give Raptor fans cause for hope:

“I’m not an addition. I’m a centerpiece,” he said. “I have to have that confidence in myself, and I want people to know that, because I’m not somebody that helps out. I’m the guy you get like, ‘Yo, we’re going to win a championship, you’re gonna take us there.’

“I want to hold onto that because I think every kid when they dream about playing basketball, they don’t dream about being a role player. They dream about being the man. I have that position in Toronto and to give that up and go somewhere else to be an addition would kinda defeat the purpose of my dreams.”

Bosh obviously wants to be the man, and does not want to be a Robin.

With that said he is likely to be a Robin if he chooses any of the teams on his list, unless the Knicks fail to land either Wade or James.

It is going to be an interesting few weeks and don’t expect Bosh to choose a team right away, he will likely look to enjoy the entire courting process and visit all NBA teams that show a mutual interest.

What do you think Raptors fans?

Raptors and most fans dont know what a number one guy is
They thing a number one guy can help them win despite on having a week center, pg, coach, horrible euro rejects. The coach and gm are responsible for players production not Bosh.

I agree, we have squandered our opportunity with Bosh and now may lose him for good.

The writing was one the wall when Colangelo went with his heart and drafted his fellow Italian 1st overall even though he could have traded back and still landed him
