Bosh does not need Raptors for sign and trade
As posited here, Chris Bosh, our franchise player does not need the Raptors to go to the top two destinations on his wish list other than Toronto.
Bosh, has already come out and said he would prefer to play with Wade as opposed to LeBron or Dwight Howard.
Add to that the fact that Bosh is expected, if he decides against the Raptors, to join the cap space ready Heat, or to follow Wade to Chicago, and we have reason to worry.
Why the extra year may be meaningless
The extra year is meaningless because Wade, Bosh and LBJ, on the advice of their agents signed for one less year this contract so they could hit FA earlier, and to avoid the new CBA.
Their agents will likely also urge them to hit FA one more time in their prime, when they can secure one last max contract.
Why the percentage raises, may not matter to Bosh
As we saw with the big three, sacrificing a little money (well little to NBA Superstars anyways), can go a long way in regards to ensuring your teams competitiveness. Asking for that extra money can cripple a team, and this is something Bosh is no doubt cognizant of.
So I ask my fellow Raptor fans, why, or to what teams will Bosh need us for a sign and trade??? Especially after the Bulls dump Hinrich??
Answer. It’s okay, I’ll wait.
Despite the cries from Raptor faithful, we have to be serious here, choice A: return to a middling one and done Canadian franchise, choice B: join Wade in Miami or Chicago; which would you choose??
Miami has Beasley and Chalmers and the lure of playing for a Pat Riley organization, not to mention South Beach. Chicago on the other hand has Deng, Noah and a little known player named Derrick Rose, not to mention it is the city where Wade is from.
Now this is not a cry for BC to make a panic move, or a move at all. Rather this is a call for Raptor fans to take off the rosy colored lenses and realize, we may, very well, lose our best player for nothing……this is a call for preparation.
What do you think Raptor fans?? Do we have reason to worry that if Bosh leaves, he may not, as hoped, need us for a sign-and-trade?? Especially considering a sign-and trade would have a negative impact on the team he would be going to??
The fact is a sign and trade will hurt his new team, so if they have cap space, will he really want to go that route?? Do you think money or winning is more important to Bosh??
Sound off Raptor fans, we want to hear your comments!!

No player is un-trade-able. The best players in the game have been traded.
All fans can ask for is if Colangelo decides to trade Bosh is that the team is better off after the trade.
This contract situation for CB, LJ, DW is different than the last contract. The last contract was designed to allow these players to sign a new deal the year before the CBA expired because of the anticipated/predictable tightening of contract standards in each successive CBA. Good Call.
These players will sign for the max. available this summer because next time, they’ll get less! There is no “game” to be played to get a “better” deal on the future contract. The next CBA will be more restrictive, the cap calculations more favorable to the owners.
They played the game – the result is they’ll all be signing max deals for 6 years with their own clubs. Not one of these players will be leaving a nickel of guaranteed money on the table.
No one – who is sane – leaves $30m of guaranteed money unnecessarily at risk.

I’m gonna ask you right now
Would you take a paycut if it meant your company would hire another person?

If Bosh is determined to leave, the money won’t make a difference. But Bosh sure doesn’t behave as though he’s determined to leave (see Tracy McGrady for what that looked like) and he seems to realize what he would be giving up if he did leave–privacy, a franchise built around him, etc. An ugly departure from Toronto would also hurt his “brand” (see Vince Carter). He has been through enough re-building campaigns to know that these things are not easy. I’ve never seen any hint of chemistry between Bosh and Wade (Dwight and Chris are known to be friends, by contrast). So, all in all, you are blowing hot air just like everybody else.

Shrugz….would I take a pay cut to hire someone…ummm, probably not
If I was an NBA player who already got a max contract and was a mutli-millionaire already….to make my team have a better chance of winning the title…..ummm, yeah, KG, Allen and Pierce are/were the trailblazers for that….little sacrifice to win a title
Sookie, Bosh said while in Orlando he would rather play with Wade over D-12 or LBJ, send me an email I’ll send you a link to the story
brothersteve: $30 million is nice, but to be a perennial one and done, or chase a championship….besides these guys have one more max around age 30, you would be surprised that winning is more important to some players than money……well to the rich Superstars anyways

Paul Pierce is the top paid small forward in the NBA; Garnett is the top paid power forward. They made ZERO financial sacrifice to be together.
Don’t bother with the link about Wade and Bosh, I’ve seen it–I don’t trust any comment reported by a reporter on Bosh. Miami Reporter: “Do you like the idea of playing with Wade, Chris?”; Bosh, “Yes”. What is the alternative? “No, I think he’s a douche”? The Miami press has been really bad in reading way too much into any noncommital comment by Bosh. NY REporter: “Do you like NY, Chris?”; Bosh: “Yes”. Headline; Bosh considering New York. See, it’s a mug’s game.

I’ve been reading your columns for a several days now, and I’m picking up on your severe pessimism about Bosh (resigned to the “fact” that Bosh is leaving)… and it’s honestly a bit much, in my opinion. It seems that you cannot simply enjoy what this team is able to do with him without fretting about whether he will stay or go. We can’t control what he will decide, and nor do we necessarily have to force his hand by trading him.
The bigger question I think you have to consider is whether this team has the tools to make it big in the next two-three years. If Bargnani’s improvement (both offensively and defensively) continues, DD’s development continues, and the PG play remains as good as it is, I would think that this team may have a chance to do something really good. Judging from what Bosh has said, the most important thing to him is to win… so if he feels this team is good enough, I think he’ll stay. And nobody will really know what we really have unless we have a calm, confident hand at the helm of this ship (a la BC) to take some risks and allow the potential to really show itself and not push the panic button just because the trade deadline is coming up and he is worried about Bosh not re-signing.
And that’s just one of the reasons that BC is being paid the big bucks, and we aren’t.

Sookie
I hear you but T-Mac makes more at SF ($23.4)
and Dirk ($19.8) and Duncan ($22.2) make more than KG ($16.4 m)
But good guess you were pretty close….and I am sure you are aware that $16.4 is not a max contract for KG http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=stein_marc&page=kgnewdeal
I feel you on the comments though, he is not likely to come out and say he is a douche, touche on that one

I am not resigned to the fact that he is leaving, just trying to inform that we do not have the bargaining power some would like to think we have….I tried to drive home that point with T-Mac article but people got fixated on T-Mac and not on the not extending during season comparison….its just my feeling that if you really want to stay you extend….you don’t ‘test the waters of free agency”
Its not all about money, its about winning
I think our chances of retaining Bosh are about 50-50, with our playoff performance being a big factor in his choice
Just trying to be a voice of reason and make sure every side is disseminated…..if everyone thought he was leaving, I would be making the case of why he would probably stay
I think the sky is the limit for DD and he is that beacon of hope for our franchise, especially with no 1st rounder next year if we make playoffs

KG, Allen, PP are all well over 30. All earned/earning $20m + per. Sure they’ll look at extension in the teens to win as a sacrifice now.
CB4 is 25 years old. This is his first max deal, not his 2nd or 3rd. He knows this is a business first and there may never be a 2nd max deal for him. All it takes is one major injury and anything he gives up is gone forever!
None of the players who can get max money this time are giving up one penny. It’s not worth the risk.

The Bosh Answer is very simple, for BC:
1. Sign him to a Max Contract and keep him, the best option.
2. Sign him to a Max contract and then trade him, for a replacement.
3. Let him sign where he wants and use the $16/20 million to sign a FA replacement.
There is no way any of the top 3 FA’s will pass up $30 mil to sign less than a MAX
just on principal, if nothing else. Would you if given the choice?
